Apple Roses

November 4, 2020

Jump to Recipe - Print Recipe

Apple Roses are made using puff pastry by rolling a row of half apple slices with a strip of pastry into a spiral. The end result resembles the shape of natural rose flower petals.

WHAT KIND OF APPLE TO USE?

Try finding the reddest apple you can get your hands on in the grocery store. That will give a nice rose like semblance.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE RAMEKINS?

Do not worry! You can use muffin tins in place of ramekins.

I have used Norpro Porcelain Ramekins if you’re looking to buy. (affiliate link)

HOW TO PREVENT THE APPLES FROM TURNING BROWN?

When you see the top of the pastry or apple turning dark golden, immediately cover it with foil and continue baking. This will prevent apples from turning brown.

HOW TO SERVE APPLE ROSES?

Once the apple roses are out of the oven, sprinkle them with icing sugar and serve immediately.

You can also serve apple roses with some vanilla ice cream or apple sauce. Both these combinations go very well, and tastes delicious.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 Apple
  • 1 Sheet Frozen Puff Pastry
  • 1 tbsp Granulated Sugar
  • ½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • Hot water (Big Bowl)
  • ½ Lemon Juice
  • ¼ Cup Melted Butter
  • All Purpose Flour (for dusting)
  • 1 tsp Icing sugar (for garnishing)

Instructions

  • Grease 4 ramekins or muffin tins with some butter and keep aside. Preheat the oven to 400 degree F.
  • In a small bowl, mix 1 tbsp granulated sugar and ½ tsp of ground cinnamon and keep it aside.
  • Squeeze lemon juice of half a lemon into a big bowl of extremely hot water. Then cut the apple in half and remove the core with the help of a spoon. Using a sharp knife or mandolin cut the apple into thin slices in semi-circle shape (refer to the video).
  • Transfer the apples slices in the lemony hot water bowl. Let the apples soak in this water for at least 20 mins. This process will help soften the apple slices.
  • Gently roll out the puff pastry dough on a lightly floured surface in the shape of a rectangle. Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, slice the rolled out puff pastry into 4 equal strips, approximately 2.5” by 11” (refer to video).
  • Using a pastry brush coat one strip of pastry with melted butter. Then sprinkle some cinnamon sugar.
  • Arrange apples along the top of the pastry strip, overlapping each slice by about half.
  • Starting at one end, gently roll pastry into a rose shape. Place it gently into a ramekin or muffin tin. Repeat the same process for remaining 3 pastry strips.
  • Bake between 50 minutes and 1 hour. If the apples start to get too brown, gently cover them with foil.
  • Carefully remove ramekins from the oven and allow them to cool for 5-10 minutes. Run a thin knife around the inner rim of the ramekin to release the roses. Gently remove the Apple Roses and place it onto the serving plate.
  • Sprinkle it with some icing sugar and serve immediately.
